YOGA FOR CAREGIVERS!
In cooperation with GreenTREE Yoga, the Wasatch CNA Center has produced a program called YOGA for CAREGIVERS
DVD/CD available soon. This presentation will help caregivers take better care of themselves by reducing stress and improving coordination, muscle strength, bolstering the immune system and helping caregivers provide better, more consistent and SAFE care for their patients or loved one.

All CNA Classes incorporate the exercises on the DVD/CD in our program as a way to assist students in becoming informed, talented, happy, and safe caregivers. No experience needed. No yoga mats, no jargon, no judgment.

Enrollment in the CNA program requires:

1) All students will need scrubs and close toed shoes for clinical practice, skills check off and clinical rotation.

2) In c
lass, studetns should dress comfortably and casually - loose fitting clothes and sensible shoes will make your skills practice easier.

3) AltIt is required that you purchase a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope for use in learning to take vitals. Knowing how to take accurage vital times is essential to pass the state exam. The Wasatch CNA Center has these available at a minimal cost.

4) Our classes are in English - so being able to read, write and speak English is a pre-requisite.

5) Though our instructors are willing to give each student any extra care and attention and can
answer any question, our CNA program is fast paced. Be sure you have enough time to study while out of class.

The Nursing Home Reform Act, adopted by Congress as part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA '87) is designed to improve the quality of care in long-term or home health facilities and to define training and evaluation standards for nursing assistants, who work in long-term care facilities and home health. Each state is responsible for following the terms of this federal law.

The Nursing Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation Program examination is a measure of nursing assistant related knowledge, skills, and abilities. Wasatch CNA Center will provide you with the training, information and skills to pass this examination.

Governance:The Wasatch CNA Center offers an approved course by the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry which meets the training requirements for students to sit for their State of Utah C.N.A. examinations, and abides by all their rules and regulations as well as by all state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Postsecondary Proprietary Schools operating in Utah must file with the Division of Consumer Protection a registration application or an exemption application. A proprietary school is defined by the Utah Postsecondary Proprietary School Act to mean any private institution, including business, modeling, paramedical, tax preparation, trade and technical schools, which offers post-secondary education in consideration of the payment of tuition or fees for the attainment of educational, professional or vocational objectives, other than those schools that are exempted from the Act. The Wasatch CNACenter is a postsecondary school and has on file a Certificate of Registration.

Registration under the Utah Postsecondary Proprietary School Act does not mean that the State of Utah supervises, recommends, nor accredits the institution. It is the student’s responsibility to determine whether credits, degrees, or certificates from the institution will transfer to other institutions or meet employer’s trainingrequirements. This may be done by calling the prospective school or employer. The institution is not accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

The Wasatch CNA Center offers a Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR) approved training program so students can take the approved state examinations. Nursing Assistants are defined by law as people who assist licensed nursing personnel in the provision of nursing care.  The authorized duties for CNAs include assisting with their client’s daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, transferring, ambulating, feeding, and toileting.  CNAs also perform tasks such as measuring vital signs, positioning and range of motion.  Utah CNAs must attend a Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR) approved training program and pass the UNAR approved state examinations to become certified.

Certification is required in Utah: CNAs are required by law to have a valid Utah CNA certificate prior to assuming CNA duties.  There is one exception:  If an individual works in a licensed nursing facility as an uncertified nursing assistant and is seeking initial certification, he/she has four months (120 days) from the date of hire to obtain initial certification. 

Discrimination: Section 188 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) prohibits discrimination against all indeividuals in the United States on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, natinal origin, age, disability, political affiliation, and aginst beneficiaries on the basis of either citizenship/status as a lawfully admitted immigrant authorized to work in the United States or participate in any WIA Title I - financially assisted program or activity:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as  amended,     which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin;
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, which prohibits discriminatin against qualified individuals with disabilities;
  • The Age Discriminatin Act of 1975m as amended, which prohibits discriminatin on the basis of age;
  • And Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended which porhibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs.
